About Mrs. Janssen
Mrs. Janssen teaches history and serves as Social Studies Department Chair at Rock Falls Township High School in Rock Falls, Illinois. She has been teaching for 22 years and has a master's degree in Instructional Technology. Mrs. Janssen is currently working on a second master's degree in Genocide Studies and, in spring of 2014, introduced a Holocaust and Genocide Studies course to the students of Rock Falls High School.
A Fulbright recipient, Mrs. Janssen has traveled the world to better understand the topic of genocide, immersing herself in both European and Asian cultures. She is heavily influenced by her time spent in workshops at the U.S. Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. and Yad Vashem in Israel. She has participated in the Auschwitz International Summer Academy at Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum in Oswiecim, Poland, during the summers of 2014 and 2016 as one of 20 educators from around the world. In 2018 Mrs. Janssen was awarded a United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Teacher Fellowship. In 2021 Mrs. Janssen was named a Defiant Requiem Teacher Ambassador. |

Mrs. Janssen is passionate about working to teach tolerance and engage students in considering how their actions affect their world both locally and globally. She believes genocide studies is a powerful lens for consideration of how we engage one another politically and how we hold one another accountable in the face of conflict.
